A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
