British Designer Antony Price, Renowned for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
The British designer Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for many legendary styles associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.
Price was best known for his defined forms and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."
His passing follows less than a month after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.
After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose influence on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
