England to Launch UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium
The England national team will embark on their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they secure the expected passage for a championship taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an English men’s fixture since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to welcome the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.
England are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, if they top their group, their round of 16 match would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean beginning the knockouts at Everton’s ground.
Competition Launch and Protest
The championship was unveiled at an event in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from European football’s governing body and the host football associations were confronted as they entered the location by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who called for Israel’s national side to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Placards were displayed with messages saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Schedule
The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will include Wales if they make it.
The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.
It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be used for European club finals from next season, will attract family audiences and help reach a broader range of fans.
Participating Countries
The Republic of Ireland are set to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the qualification path.
Locations and Knockout Stage
Villa Park and The North London arena finalize the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals held at the national stadium of each host.
The qualification draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it became clear the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.
Official Statement
“This will be a championship for the fans and a celebration of everything we love about the game – its passion and power to foster unity.”
In excess of three million tickets, a all-time high for a men’s European Championship, are anticipated to be offered to attendees.
