Former Doctor Accused of Assault Charges Against 38 Patients
Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor now faces charges for performing assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
The Serious Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of sexual offences – comprising acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.
One senior prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
The Investigation
The charges follow what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Offences
The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences comprise:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
