Soccer Expert Chris Sutton Battles Artist Olly Murs in Premier League Predictions

The Gunners' 10-game winning streak came to an end by Sunderland before the global hiatus, but will the English top division leaders recover against local foes Spurs this weekend?

"{I believe like Arsenal are light years ahead of Tottenham currently but Spurs manager Thomas Frank will have a plan for this match," stated football specialist Chris Sutton.

"Frank will attempt to neutralize Arsenal, who have not always been at their scintillating best this season - but Mikel Arteta's side typically still find a way to win."

The analyst is making predictions for all 380 Premier League fixtures this term, against AI, readers and a variety of special visitors.

For the twelfth round, he takes on performer Olly Murs, who is a United supporter.

Murs' new album, the new release, is available on the weekend.

Football and Family Experiences

Olly is a skilled soccer player as well as a accomplished singer and has been a star of multiple charity football matches down the years - but he is not planning a serious return as a player.

"{I recently played in a benefit match the other night for a mate of mine," he explained. "My team was trailing 3-1 when I came off in the second half, and they went on to win 4-3, so you can interpret that what you want!

"I continue to love football, but I hurt my joint a few years ago and it even now isn't where I want it to be. I wish I could play more but the unpredictability of the game means it's too dangerous for me in my profession to do it seriously again.

"Additionally I am forty-one now, and we are not all Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very content not playing football and I am gearing up for the time that my child or boy decides to play instead."

Murs and his wife his partner have a young family, their daughter and their son, and he is prepared to follow in his father's footsteps by taking on the role of their manager.

"I will not force football on our kids but I've previously told Amelia that if they do get the passion for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will probably be coaching their Saturday soccer team," he said.

"I observed my nephews play a lot, and I really got into it, and I obviously owned a football club for a while too.

"My father did it with us when I was a child, which is probably where I inherited it. He managed our team for two or three years and had great fun with it. That might be the future for me as well, and I am excited to it!"

Premier League Predictions

Chelsea might have to be patient for Cole Palmer's return from injury but their attack is already more potent with Joao Pedro and Liam Delap both returned to fitness.

In my opinion this game will be fairly tight, though. Burnley are well organised and their only home defeats so far have been against the Reds and Arsenal.

It smells of a 1-1 draw to me, but I am actually going to choose Chelsea to edge it for what would be their third consecutive Premier League win in a row.

Sutton's prediction: 1-2

The singer's pick: The Blues will be too strong. 1-3

Artificial intelligence's outlook: 0-2

The Cherries have been defeated in their past two games - although both of them were on the road - but they got thoroughly beaten by Aston Villa last time out which shocked me.

On the other hand, West Ham secured two in a row before the hiatus and, although both of those fixtures were at home, they appear strong again.

West Ham's sole on the road win this campaign came at Nottingham Forest in the summer, when West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo was still Forest coach.

Therefore, what on earth do I go with here - can West Ham extending their run under Nuno, or Bournemouth responding?

I will go with Bournemouth, because I believe what happened against Villa was a blip.

The pundit's forecast: 2-0

Olly's outlook: The home team are doing well but the visitors have picked up under their boss. 2-2

AI's pick: 1-1

  • Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT

The Bees were seen as one of the frontrunners for the drop before the season began, but they have impressed a several observers under their manager and are in good form with three wins in their last four matches.

My son advised me to get Bees striker Thiago in my fantasy soccer squad a few weeks back and, unfortunately, I ignored the advice.

The forward will likely score again on Saturday but I am still not going to select him or support the away side at Brighton's ground.

The Bees have not had great success on the travel this season, and the Seagulls are consistently decent at home. Brentford will try to hit them on the break but I feel Fabian Hurzeler's side carry much more of a threat.

The analyst's prediction: 2-1

Olly's view: It could be a match where you think there is going to be a lot of scores but it actually proves to be rather tight. 1-1

AI's prediction: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a huge fixture for Fulham, who have lost five of their last six games.

Fulham have got lots of talent in their team but it nonetheless feels like they could be dragged into a relegation fight.

As for Sunderland, indeed they are the unexpected success of the top flight season so far.

Their performance in the 2-2 tie with the Gunners last time out was excellent. We've not witnessed anyone else disrupt the North London side like that this term, and they were fully competitive for them.

The logical choice would be to support the visitors here, because they are obviously capable of disrupting Fulham up too and, the last time they were in this part of London, they beat Chelsea at the end of last month.

However I am not do that. Rather, I truly need to carry on going against Sunderland with my predictions. I am taking a lot of responsibility for their positive results because they evidently love to defy my predictions.

Considering the home side's home record, the sole team they have been defeated by is Arsenal. Their manager's side will be absolutely eager for a positive result, so I am going to say they will pick up three much-needed points.

The expert's prediction: 1-0

The guest's prediction: I'm aware the visitors are performing strongly and additionally that the hosts are on a bad run... but Fulham have still been decent at home this season. 2-0

The algorithm's prediction: 2-0

It is a hard fixture to predict. The Reds have lost seven of their last ten matches in every tournament, but could they be one of the teams who profit from the {international break|
