The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
