The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
