Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting Against the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the ALCS.

Trailing by two runs, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, guiding the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a four games to three win in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for everyone here, the city, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an incredible feeling."

The veteran has now connected for 23 October home runs, making him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another player in the world that I want up in that spot besides him with his playoff prowess," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" after his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their performance in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the losing end of the series," he added.

Toronto claimed the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
