This new direction follows major restructuring at the publicly-funded organization, including the stepping down of its previous CEO last month after both staff concerns and government pressure for comprehensive reform.

The organization's leader, a previous Amazon UK leader, confirmed that 78 different research projects at the organization with 440 employees have been terminated, transferred out or finished because they do not align with the revised strategy.
